According to Destructoid, K-mart has listed the new Playstation 3 slim with a release date of August 24th. If true, this would be the first major announcement coming from K-mart since they started selling those rotisserie-style hotdogs by the front entrance.
I’m most interested in how K-mart, not Walmart or Target, managed to get the go ahead by Sony to announce the PS3 slim before even Sony made an announcement. Either K-mart is a lot more influential than I thought (they’re swimming in revenue from last year’s booming candle sales?) or they just became the radical bad boy of the retail world.
Sony: “Hey K-mart, could you hold off a bit on listing the PS3 slim? We want to make the annoucement first, you know, because we’re kind of making the system and selling it and everything. Cool?”
K-mart: “Pffffffffffttttttt.”
Sony: “…bless you?”
K-mart: “I can’t control the world, man. Things happen, and sometimes they are just too razor for people to wait around for an announcement from a big corporation.”
Sony: “..but you’re a big corporation.”
K-mart: “WHATEVER BRAH.”
A more likely scenario is that some K-mart employee, dizzy from the thrill of listing back to school sale items, turned a couple wrong knobs. But no matter what happened, this is excellent advertising for K-mart, a store largely forgotten when it comes to buying things.
